RTU Design Factory projects receive more than 14.5 thousand euros in “Innovation LCM 20”

Within the goal programme “Innovation LCM 20”, organized by the company “Linstow Center Management”, 14 780 euro were awarded to five new business projects – “Drone Plan”, “eHarv”, “Quube”, “KIDLINO” and “Cozy Cell”. Also, a new 3D printer was purchased. The acquired financing will allow these start-up companies to develop their ideas in “RTU IdeaLAB” support programme.

“Linstow Center Management” (LCM), in celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary, invited its cooperation partners to donate funds for implementation of ideas of passionate, young and talented inventors. In cooperation with Riga Technical University (RTU) and RTU Design Factory a goal programme “Innovation LCM 20” was organized. Within the programme 14 782.10 EUR were donated, which allowed the Design Factory to upgrade laboratory equipment and to implement ideas of RTU students and young scientists.

“When idea is at its fragile starting stages support is very important. Innovation and self-motivation are common values for “Linstow Center Management” and the new inventors. We thank our cooperation partners, who provided their support to transfer ideas from paper to reality. Belief in the idea, united team and support of reliable partners is the fuel for the highest achievements!” emphasized commercial director of LCM trade centres Evija Majevska.

All five teams present different business ideas: unmanned flying apparatus software, tactile design items for children, bicycle-powered USB charger, modular writing utensils organizer and modular wireless charging station. The financial support will allow each project to achieve one of the set goals in the next few months.

“Drone Plan” team will start first automated drone flight tests. “KIDLINO” will purchase materials for presentation of spring collection during “Baltic Textile Expo”. Founders of “eHarv” company – foreign RTU students – will invest the received funds to create a bicycle-powered USB charger prototype, which will allow to charge mobile phones with bicycle-generated electricity. “Cozy Cell” team has also ordered spare parts for prototypes to participate in “World Expo” in Astana. The manufacturer of modular writing utensil organizer “Quube” will invest funds into development of sales channels.

Almost five thousand euros from the total donated sum were used for purchase of a new 3D printer “Zortrax M300”. This unique device allows to create unusually large, real-scale prototypes, while adding a new value to well-known things.

“We are grateful to “Linstow Center Management” for the initiative! We are very happy about the chance to improve the number of technologies available to RTU students, scientists and young entrepreneurs. The financial support will allow us to use new technologies and materials in young companies,” said RTU Design Factory manager Guntis Kulikovskis.

RTU Design Factory is one of the leading innovation centres in the Baltics, and is a part of global Design Factory cooperation network. It is a unique platform for hands-on learning and creation of innovative products. Due to technological capabilities, the scientists and students will be able to shape their ideas into prototypes, which will become products available on the markets.
